Please join OCNI and the Fusion Energy Council of Canada (FECC) for our webinar "The Hydrogen-Nuclear Nexus" on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 1:00 pm EST.

Hydrogen is an acknowledged energy carrier and versatile chemical reagent. Its production from water or hydrocarbon resources is highly energy intensive. Nuclear fission and, in due course, nuclear fusion are capable of providing electricity and heat in the copious quantities required by large-scale hydrogen production, thereby establishing the connection between hydrogen and nuclear. The connection is strengthened by the nuclear industry’s expertise in safety and hydrogen-materials interactions under severe conditions.

Starting with an outline of hydrogen production fundamentals based on fission and fusion science, this webinar will discuss the status of hydrogen production based on nuclear technologies. It will outline Canada’s expertise in the hydrogen-nuclear connection, including the design, supplier, contracting, operator, and innovation sectors. The needs for research, development, and education are also addressed.

Hydrogen production and use based on nuclear energy will contribute to achieving the goal of Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions economically and sustainably.
